THE FAIRY CROSSES OF FANIN COUNTY by Jaclyn Weldon White

Ever get in the mood where you miss some of those comfortable hit TV shows of the past? Ever think that you wish Angela Lansbury was still making the “Murder She Wrote” series? If so, well do I have the right book for you to read. It is THE FAIRY CROSSES OF FANIN COUNTY and it could easily be the basis of a script for that much beloved TV show.

The heroine/sleuth of this novel is Emily Christopher. She lives in an active adult community north of Atlanta and works part time for the Blount County District Attorney’s office as a part time consultant. This allows her to keep her investigative skills up to date while not having the commitment of a full time job.

Life is nice and leisurely in Emily’s world. She likes where she lives; she has a best friend named Linda who is a good companion; and best of all she has a new man in her life named Nick and he gives her love, affection and security. So what is there not to be happy about? Absolutely nothing, until one day when her ex-husband Owen calls to tell her his wife Sarah, who hdestroyed Emily’s marriage, has been found dead in their home. He said he woke up and she was dead in one of the downstairs rooms.

Emily’s first reaction is to question why this should concern her, but then she thinks of her and Owen’s two children. Keeping this in mind she responds affirmatively when he asks for her help. So even though the police are investigating Sarah’s murder, Emily is doing some sleuthing of her own.

All of the characters White creates are people readers can relate to in the easiest of ways. They are not perfect and have their flaws. Still they are people you instantly like, especially the undeterred Emily. She faces life head on and uses her brain to help herself and help others. She is a good match for Nick, and a good friend to Linda. She is just an honestly nice person who isn’t bland in her goodness.

White knows how to plot a mystery and she lets it unfold in the most natural of ways. She never complicates things beyond the point of believability, and she also does not simplify things to the extreme. She presents the perfect balance in telling a good mystery story and she does it in an assured way.

If you want a story that will pique your interest and hold that interest from first page till last then THE FAIRY CROSSES OF FANIN COUNTY is just the book for you.

THE FAIRY CROSSES OF FANNIN COUNT6Y is published by Deeds It contains 216 pages and sells for $15.95.
