G Force (Walt Disney Pictures)

The Hamsters Ham It Up

Jerry Bruckheimer has been making one action movie after another and these movies employ a lot of special effects. So why not make a kids movie that has action and the special effects involve getting guinea pigs to be part of the action Sounds good to me and it is! G Force is the result of this thinking and it is an amusing childrens film that has some solid action sequences.

The guinea pigs are intelligent, English speaking furry creatures who are trained by a man named Ben (Zach Galifianakis) to be special agents of a sort. They work closely together to bring down the bad guys, but they operate under the government radar. The main three are Darwin (voiced b Sam Rockwell), Blaster (voiced by Tracy Morgan) and Juarez (Penelope Cruz). They are also assisted by the brilliant mole named Speckles (voiced by Nicolas Cage).

The agents are trying to bring down a financier named Saber (Bill Nighy) who they think is trying to conquer the world. Problems arise when FBI Agent Kipp Killian (Will Arnett) shuts their operation down. At this point the creatures are without human guidance and have to take matters into their own hands.

The various action sequences are fun and exciting with the agents being given as much personality and charm as the human characters maybe more so. Each one comes alive before your eyes and they make a lasting impression.

The film is rated PG for mild violence.

Kids will love the excitement of the film as well as the charm of the animals. Adults will find it entertaining but not a great adventure. It is more of a fun treat for them along the lines of The Chipmunk Movie. It is entertaining while you are watching it but forgettable as soon as you finish.

Once again the folks at Disney have provided entertainment for the kids that wont bore the adults. Plus you get the option of watching it in 3-D which adds more excitement. If you want to take the kids to the movies then this is the one to select. It is pure fun from start to finish.

I scored G Force a gee whiz 6 out of 10.
