“Waiting” (Lion’s Gate Films)
Have you been waiting for the worst movie of the year I bet you thought “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo” was it. Wrong! The movie you have been waiting for is “Waiting,” a gross, profane, stupid, dull, annoying and obnoxious movie about those people who fix and serve you your meal at your favorite dining spot.
Ryan Reynolds, Anna Faris, Luis Guzman and surprisingly Chi McBride star in this film and I will never, ever forgive them for their greed in agreeing to take part in this mess. Reynolds is the “star” of this fiasco. He plays Monty the veteran server at a place called Shenanigans. This place looks so much like the real chain Bennigans that they should sue for defamation.
A new kid named Mitch (John Frances Daley) is being broken in as a server and Monty is showing him the ropes. This includes his introduction to a game where the male workers at Shenanigans expose themselves and then call anyone caught looking a homosexual. You can see the level of entertainment the makers of this film are aiming for.
The rest of the movie is laced with endless profanity, crude jokes and finally graphic nudity. There is no real story line and the actors are all terrible. I recently saw Reynolds in a film on television where he played a teacher who inspired his students. He was actually pretty good in the part. I had hopes for his growth as an actor – not any more.
This is one of those movies that will make its money on DVD where underage kids will watch it over and over again. They will find the smutty humor hilarious and will be scarred for life by the sick messages about sex, drugs and relationships.
The film is rated R for profanity, nudity and coarse humor.
When you go to see “Waiting,” if you are waiting to be entertained you will still be waiting when “Waiting” is over. This movie is bad in the most boring sense of the word.
I scored “Waiting” a worst 1 out of 10.
