The Hangover 2 (Warner Brothers)
Just Like the Original But More Excessive
Those who go to see The Hangover 2 have to be expecting more of the same and that is exactly what they get. They get the same story told one more time but with a different locale. They get more male nudity than they got in the first one thanks to Ken Jeong and others. They get stupid situations that make even less sense than those in the first film did. Add it all up and this movie is more of the same but less in entertainment and I didnt even like the first film.
Phil (Bradley Cooper) and Doug (Justin Bartha) are going to Bangkok, Thailand for Stus (Ed Helms) marriage to Lauren (Jamie Chung). They have all learned their lessons from Vegas and plan to keep this wedding on the straight and narrow. But then someone says they have to invite Alan (Zack Galifianakis). Now why would any sane humans invite Alan along again since he was the one who caused the trauma that happened in Vegas! Well they do.
In Thailand the same thing happens again. The guys start off with some beers on the beach and end up the next morning in a hovel of a hotel room and they cant remember a thing. Alans head has been shaved and Stu has a facial tattoo that looks like the one Mike Tyson sports. Oh and they find a finger with a ring on it that looks a lot like it belongs to Teddy (Mason Lee). He is Laurens sixteen year old brother who was at the beach party. He is missing even though his finger was left behind.
And so it begins. Another lost night that leads to someone missing (yes, we have been there and done that). But this time out the hooker Stu hooked up with is a little special. Also Mr. Chow (Jeong) appears courtesy of Alan. He gets the guys in some trouble with drug dealers, to add to their woes.
Not very much in this movie is funny thought it is supposed to be hilarious. Also Alan is one of the most obnoxious characters ever created for the screen and it makes you intensely dislike Galifianakis for playing the role. It brought back all the memories of how much I hated him in Due Date.
The movie is rated R for profanity, violence and graphic nudity.
Cooper and Helms are okay in their roles though they really dont have anything to do that requires much acting. Tyson makes his required cameo and that is a fairly good surprise. Chung is beautiful as Lauren but why that girl would marry a dunce like Stu is another unbelievable part of the scenario.
Those who loved the original Hangover will probably love this sequel. It basically is the same movie. God help us if that means there will be a number 3. Lets hope not. Another lost night where would the next locale be Maybe Rio.
There is a lot of nudity and a lot of crudity in this movie. Maybe that is supposed to make up for the fact there are very few laughs. The Hangover 2 lived up to its title. It gave me a major headache.
I scored The Hangover 2 a blurry 3 out of 10.
