Her central character is Madeline Chase, the heiress to a chain of hotels. They belonged to her grandmother who raised her after her parents were killed in a car wreck. Madeline is comfortable running this chain of hotels as her grandmother prepared her for this eventuality. She also protected Madeline from a dark secret she had uncovered some eighteen years earlier.

But now Madeline has been summoned back to Washington state by a man named Tom who worked for her grandmother and who had helped protect Madeline from harm. She has brought with her Jack, the company’s security advisor. It is a good thing she did as death and danger are waiting on the island off the Washington coast.

Shortly thereafter Madeline and Jack are joined by Madeline’s old friend Daphne. She is Madeline’s “secret sister,” a term the girls invented to acknowledge their closeness. They have not seen each other in eighteen years but the intervening years fade away as soon as they are reunited once again. These three are also joined by Abe, Jack’s brother. Within a short time all four have bonded and are ready to face whatever mysteries they can uncover on this island.

Krentz does not let many pages pass before creating another suspenseful and interesting event. There is one or more killers alive and well on the island and they are focused on Madeline and by association Jack. The killer is unaware of what a band of foes he has uncovered. These four stalwart adventurers are a combination of the Hardy boys joined with the Hardy girls.

Krentz makes sure that every plot thread is covered and that each is covered logically. She also makes sure to bring the romantic entanglements to fruition. This makes the book an interesting one to read and also a satisfying one.

Krentz’ style is to be direct and simplistic in the evolution of the plot. Her ideas flow freely and carry the readers easily along. It is a great way to write a book and it has made her the popular novelist that she is.

SECRET SISTERS is just what Krentz fans want it to be. They know her name on the cover promises a book of satisfying entertainment, full of romance and suspense. When they finish reading this book they will know she has kept her promise.
