Grab the suntan oil, buy a new pair of shades, and spring for that new bathing suit because summer has arrived! Yes Mary Kay Andrews new summer novel has hit the book stores and for many, many of her ardent fans that means summer has officially gotten here at last . And to make it even more positive the title of her new book is HELLO, SUMMER. You couldn’t get any more definite than that!
Mary Kay Andrews writes her books with a flair – a flair for the romantic, a flair for the comedic, a flair for the dramatic. Each of her books contain these elements and depending on the way she combines them means how enjoyable her story is. Well in HELLO, SUMMER she has gotten the perfect recipe as this book is one of her best ever – and if you have read other Mary Kay Andrew books that is saying a lot.
In the pages of this novel yo meet Conley Hawkins, a successful newspaper journalist. She has paid her dues and has worked her way up the ladder of good positions, Now she is ready to move into her best job ever – and then the bottom falls out. The job disappears and Conley heads for home which is Silver Bay, Florida. It is there that her sister Grayson is running the family newspaper.
It is also there her G’mama owns a couple of homes and can provide a place for Conley to get her bearings. And finally it is also a place where her neighbor down the street, Sean Kelly, can insert himself back into her life. This is not a part of Conley’s plans but nature being what nature is, it happens.
Before Conley can barely tell her sister and G’mama she is not working at the family paper, a scandalous death occurs in her small town. Conley not only witnesses it, she is also the first with the scoop. It seems Conley might stick around to see this story through till the end. And so it goes.
Andrews hits the ground running with her story and hooks the reader before he/she can intentionally think about it. She sets up her plot and makes sure the characters involved therein are people the readers will want to know. This is especially true of Conley, a modern day career woman who is not looking for a man to provide her with happiness. She is creating her own success and happiness, and if a man is involved that is a grand coincidence.
Mary Kay Andrews has written this book with exuberance. You can almost visualize her at her computer vigorously creating one of her best stories yet. She knows her audience of readers and delivers everything they like about her work and more.
Summer has started and HELLO, SUMMER is a harbinger of good times ahead. Head for the beach, head for the lakeshore, or just head for the backyard but make sure this novel is in your hand. Don’t turn loose of it until you have read all about Conley and her amazing summer adventure. It is so enjoyable and so engrossing that you, along with me, will be rooting for a HELLO, SUMMER II.
