Next Day Air (Summit Entertainment)

What A Waste!

Mike Epps, Donald Faison, Mos Def and an array of others star in the new film Next Day Air. It is a movie about the drug trade and how people can get involved in it by the lure of the money. The film is profanity ridden, violent and most of all stupid. Audiences will leave this one wondering why it was made and for what audience.

Faison plays a parcel post deliverer by the name of Leo. He is a neer do well who spends most of his days hopped up on weed. This causes him to make mistakes when he delivers packages like the one intended for Jesus (Cisco Reyes) which is given instead to Brody (Epps).

The package contained a shipment of cocaine and when Brody opens it up all he can think of is money. He immediately contacts his cousin Shavoo (Omari Hardwicke) and offers him first purchase rights.

Meanwhile Jesus and his girlfriend Chita (Yasmin Deliz) are out looking for the delivery truck. They want to find out who made the mistake and when. Their lives actually hang in the balance if they dont recover the goods.

This description of the story is more substantive than it actually is. The plot is hung on the framework of what seems to be ad-libbed dialogue and poor acting. Debbie Allen makes a cameo appearance and she too seems to be just walking through on her way to a better role.

The film is rated R for profanity, violence and nudity.

There is very little that is entertaining about this movie. Faison has some charm, as he has shown on Scrubs, but it is mostly hidden from sight in this film. Mos Def and Mike Epps are two of the funniest guys around but they dont have a chance to get any good laughs. They just act strung out and goofy.

This is a movie that might find a semblance of an audience on DVD but at the movie theaters it is just a waste of time and money. Save your time, save your money, and stay away from Next Day Air.

I scored Next Day Air a traveled 3 out of 10.
