CHRISTMAS WEDDING SONG is the fourth novel in the Rockwater Suite series by Phyllis Clark Nichols. All of these books have centered around the love story of Caroline and Roderick. In this forth book we have finally arrived at the time for their wedding. The days draw close and all looks good, but there is always the possibility of a snag and Nichols paves the way for that to happen. The road to true l;ove never runs smoothly, etc.
Each of Nichols’ books has the capacity to stand alone but they are of so much better if you read them in sequence, building off the characters and storylines that occur in each book. It is nice to grow to know the people who are so important to both Caroline and Roderick, as well as the familiar places that have figured into their story.
Angel and Sam are two of the people who pop into my mind as I look back over the journey to this novel. The are an older couple who have pretty much “adopted” Caroline since she moved to their town of Moss Point, Georgia. Caroline suffered a traumatic event in her life and Angel and Sam helped pick up the pierces. They have been there for her in every way. With each story in the series Angel and Sam have become more and more important and are now firmly lodged in the hearts of Nichols many readers.
It is also important to learn about Rockwater, Roderick’s estate in Kentucky, Caroline had thought she could never leave Moss Pint but when Roderick entered her life he opened her eyes to a new place she could call home. Nichols is at her creative best as she describes the grounds, the buildings and the furnishings of this marvelous place for the readers. It becomes an actual place in their minds they wish they could visit.
Although CHRISTMAS WEDDING SONG is the perfect place to end Caroline and Roderick’s story it seems Nichols still has her eyes on the journey ahead. No doubt Caroline and Roderick will share more adventures, more sadness and more joy in the books to come. Mark me down as a reader who could not be happier about this prospect.
