“Final Destination 2” (New Line Pictures)

“Final Destination 2” is the kind of movie that promises cheap thrills and delivers! Just like the original which concerned a group of students who had somehow cheated death, this movie takes the same premise and expands upon it. Once again we have violence and gore along with quick scares and shallow characters.

“2” starts with Kimberly Corman (A J Cook) leaving on a road trip with some of her friends. While driving on the highway she has a vision of an accident which will kill her and many others. When she comes back to herself she manages to avoid the accident in a way that “cheats death.” Now she is afraid that she and all the people who were supposed to be killed in the wreck will die. In other words death will come after them.

She manages to track down Clear Rivers (Ali Larter) the only survivor of the other group of “death cheaters.” She begs her to help solve this puzzle and stop the death march. From this point on it is a race to save as many people as possible before death comes calling.

Each death that occurs is shocking and scary. The audience feels the adrenaline pumping as the characters try to save a few more people. Some they do and some they don’t and the fear factor is in seeing who gets saved and how. Or who gets set up to die and how.

The actors will all hopefully move on to bigger and better things. The only performer who really impresses in this film is Tony Todd who once again plays the ominous Mr. Bludworth. He can chill anyone’s blood with his wily ways and spooky demeanor.

The movie is rated R for brief nudity, violence and profanity.

If you enjoyed the first movie you will certainly enjoy this second one. It has more shocks and surprises and even more laughs. If this franchise continues to deliver the goods as well as this one does, then there should be many more “Final Destinations.”

I scored “Final Destination 2” a continued 5 out of 10.
