“Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo” (Columbia Pictures)

It isn’t that “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo” is lewd and crude (which it is over and over again) that makes the Rob Schneider film such a loser; it’s that it is also gratingly boring. In this sequel that nobody was demanding, the jokes fly fast and furious but they flop time and time again. It is a soft porn film without a touch of intelligence or originality.

The film opens with Deuce (Schneider) grieving over his dead wife who was eaten by a shark in Mexico. He carries around an artificial leg that reminds him of her (why, I do not know). So when he gets a call from his old friend TJ (Eddie Griffin) inviting him to join him in Amsterdam he goes.

While he is there TJ is accused of being a serial killer who targets gigolos. Deuce starts trying to track down the killer in order to clear TJ’s name. Along the way he meets an odd assortment of women who suffer from different ailments. One of them is Eva (Hanna Verboom) who suffers from a variety of ticks and reactive traits. She is also the niece of the police commissioner (Jeroen Krabbe’).

None of this is interesting, or amusing, or entertaining in the least. Schneider even looks bored with it all; Griffin looks embarrassed to be in the movie; and Krabbe’ should know better and deserves better.

Each scene involves a situation that tries to be cruder than the one that preceded it. On and on it goes with the jokes getting dirtier and the boredom getting greater. Finally it all just fizzles to a close and you have never been so happy to see a movie end in your life.

Rob Schneider has some comic talent and he shouldn’t be wasting it in movies like this one. The same is true for Griffin. As for Krabbe’, I don’t know how they convinced him to show up for work each day.

The movie is rated R for profanity, nudity and sexual situations.

One good thing you can say about “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo” is that is it surely is the worst movie of the year. Now that we have seen it we can relax and enjoy everything else that follows. I don’t think they are going to get much worse than this one.

I scored “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo” a low card 2 out of 10.
