Dance Flick (Paramount Pictures)

Two Left Unfunny Feet

The Wayans Brothers are known for their abilities to spoof the latest fads and trends in movies. With their latest movie, Dance Flick, they set their sights on the dance movies such as Save the Last Dance For Me, Hairspray, High School Musical and others. The Wayans are sprinkled through the movie as members of the cast with Damon Wayans, Jr. having the lead male role.

The plot of the movie is meandering and the good jokes are few and far between. To add insult to injury there is very little dancing in this movie titled Dance Flick. One number parodying Fame is about as musical as the movie gets.

In addition to the talents of the members of the Wayans family the movie also misuses the talents of such solid comic actors as David Allen Grier, Amy Sedaris and Chris Elliott. Of the three only Grier produces some chuckles as a super heavy guy named Sugar Bear.

Most of the comedy in the movie is tasteless or just stupid. In the past the Wayans have been inventive and original but not here! It is as if they had a drought of talent. The skits in the movie are not tied together and each one is worse than the one preceding it.

Shoshana Bush has the female lead but her comedic abilities are worse than her acting talent and that is saying a lot. Essence Atkins easily outshines her as a single mother named Charity. She and an adorable baby brighten the dullness of the movie whenever they appear.

The film is rated PG-13 and that is a very generous rating when you consider how much profanity, vulgarity and sexual humor there is in this movie.

Dance Flick is a one note movie and that note is not funny. The Wayans are a talented family. They just dont show it with this film.

I scored Dance Flick a rhythmless 2 out of 10.
