8 Behind the Wheel (Little Men Entertainment)

Reckless Driving

8 Behind the Wheel is a low budget art film created by Trace Burroughs. It is a throwback to the independent movies of the sixties and early seventies. It is dialogue intensive and requires dedication and stamina to get through it. It is not a relax and enjoy movie; it is a study and discern type of film.

The cast is made up of amateur actors, including Mr. Burroughs. They play eight people who are driving, driving, driving. While they are driving they are thinking, thinking, thinking. The time of the film changes from day to night and you wonder where are these people going!

At first the tempo of their thoughts seems stilted. It also seems rushed. Still as you listen to it go and on and on it begins to register with the viewer. The words that have seemed at first fake and overly dramatic begin to string together to create a portrait of despair. Finally when you determine what the link between these eight people is you are hooked on the film.

As stated, this is not an easy film to watch and endure but as a learning tool it is worthwhile. You see the power of dialogue and the beauty of the crude effort to place on film a variety of emotions and thoughts.

This is the type of film that should be seen at film festivals and film schools. It has a point and it makes it with words and more words. It will be interesting to see where Trace Burroughs goes from here. Whatever he does it is bound to be unique.
