Wish I Could Unwatch Season 4 of “Bosch” and Start All Over Again

“Bosch” (Amazon Prime)

The fourth season of “Bosch” is available for streaming on Amazon Prime. Once again we are invited into the world of LA homicide detective Harry Bosch, a man who sprang from the vivid imagination and superb writing skills of Michael Connelly. Then when Titus Welliver was cast in the role of Bosch the magic really began to happen. Each season has been outstanding and the fourth is no exception.

The show starts wit the murder of attorney Howard Elias (Clark Johnson). He has brought a suit against the city for police brutality against his client. Before the case can go to trial he is shot down and suspicion for his death falls on the policemen targeted by his case. Harry Bosch is assigned the task of heading up the investigation of the murder.

Nothing is more entertaining than seeing Bosch uncover the facts of an investigation step by step. He doesn’t make it look too easy but he also doesn’t make it look too hard. Harry is a good, thorough cop who loves his job. This is what has made the “Bosch” books by Connelly so popular and it is what makes this TV series so fulfilling.

This time out the audience gets a broader look into Harry’s personal life. The series explores Harry’s relationship with his ex-wife Eleanor (Sarah Clarke) who is back in LA in order to be closer to their daughter Maddie (Madison Lintz). There are also a lot more scenes involving Maddie and her relationship with her father. It is a complex one and when Harry and Maddie go head to head it brings out the best talent in both actors.

Connelly’s books featuring Bosch, of which there are twenty so far, are the basis for the series plots. They are combined in a way that makes for a completely logical plot. Hanging over it all is that sense of melancholy which permeates the books and now moves on to the screen. Harry Bosch lives in a world that is tinged with sadness at every turn. It has been that way since he was a small boy whose mother was murdered. That set him apart from others and this outsider status stays true even in the present.

Titus Welliver was a hard working actor with a steady career before he signed on for “Bosch.” But once the actor picked up the mantle of this role he has been inspired to be an even better performer. Each line of dialogue, each scene played out reinforces the thought that Welliver is Bosch and Bosch is Welliver.

Mention must be made of the cinematography of the series. LA never looked more beautiful, especially at night. The camerawork and the lighting are breathtaking. And when you get to Harry’s home overlooking the city it makes you want to pack your bags and move in.

I don’t know how we lived without streaming in the past but it certainly is a pleasure to be able to sit down and watch a ten episode series at my leisure or fast pace. The only problem is once it is watched you can’t unwatch it and start fresh again. You just have to wait an entire year for a new set of episodes to arrive. “Bosch” is worth the wait.

“Bosch” Season 4 is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
