The View From Jackie’s Head #3

Get your moviegoing shoes on cause there is a ton of movies opening this weekend. You can see (1) Snowden (2) Blair Witch (3) Bridget Jones Baby (4) Mr. Church and/or (5) Hillsong – Let Hope Rise. Plus if you want to trek to Atlanta or another major city you can add “The Hollars” to that list.

“Snowden “ is the story of Edward Snowden, the NSA employee who leaked information about all the surveillance that Agency was conducting. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Snowden and Oliver Stone is the director. It is a film bound to be controversial, and those who have seen it say you want to come home and throw out all your computers.

“Blair Witch” is a sequel of sorts to “The Blair Witch Project”, one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. This movie was first advertised as being a film titled “The Woods” but now the truth has come out and it is a sequel. Don’t know what the reason was for that little deflection of information. Anyway get ready to have a “thrilling/chilling” good time, if you like this sort of movie.

It has been a while since the last Bridget Jones movie. During that time we have seen Renee Zellwegger’s career come to a screeching halt, whether by intent or not. She is back as one of her most popular characters and Hugh Grant is nowhere to be seen. Colin Firth reappears and Patrick Dempsey has been added to the cast. The first two movies about Bridget were very successful so we will see how number three plays out.

Eddie Murphy has been absent from the screen for a while, but he too is back. In “Mr. Church” he plays a man who rescues people who are in bad situations. The trailer looks great and the buzz is Eddie may get nominated for awards in the best supporting actor category for this role. Britt Robertson is also in the film and I like her.

If you like the current trend in gospel music then you will enjoy “Hillsong – Let Hope Rise.” This is a behind the scenes look at the group from Australia known as “Hillsong,” and their rise to international fame. I have been seeing trailers for this movie for months and now it is finally here.

John Krasinski directed and stars in “The Hollars,” a movie about one family and the ups and downs it faces. Krasinski oozes likability and when paired in scenes with Margo Martindale as his mother he reaches acting levels he has not hit in any other movie. Richard Jenkins plays his dad, Sharito Copley is his brother, and Anna Kendrick is his girlfriend. And just when you don’t expect it, Josh Grobin pops up as a youth minister.

That’s a lot of movie power on display but fall is the season when award worthy movies are released in droves, and fall is almost here.

Just a reminder “Longmire” starts on Netflix September 23 and Billy Bob Thornton’s new series “Goliath” will be available on Amazon Prime, October 14. I just found out today that “Bloodline” will end after Season 3. Plus that season will only have ten episodes rather than the regular thirteen.

Question, is anybody excited about the new shows on ABC, NBC, CBS or Fox? Leave a comment below if you are. Remember you can always reach me at jkershawcooper@aol.com if you have any questions.
