“Destination Truth” (Syfy)

“Destination Truth” is “Ghost Hunters” first cousin. On both of these Syfy shows people go out looking for paranormal phenomena, and usually turn up empty handed. After watching both of these shows for a while I don’t think I have ever seen a major breakthrough of information. Still the search goes on.

In this season’s premiere episode of “Destination Truth” adventurer John Gates leads his group to Jerusalem where he plans to investigate the ancient battle site of Masada. This is the area where one thousand Israeli soldiers committed suicide rather than surrender to the Romans.

Gates and crew do all there investigating at night so the picture takes on a greenish tinge as they use their night cameras and other equipment. Of course they hear things and see things none of which I can ever see or hear. Even the power of their persuasion can’t convince me they have captured anything on film. Of course you might feel differently after you see it.

On the second half of the show Gates and crew head to Ireland to track down leprechauns (yes I said leprechauns!). They want to find the little people and maybe grab their gold. They interview some of the locals and they are all big on there being such creatures. This leads to Gates and company spending a night in the forest.

The thing that saves this show is Gates’ sense of humor. He is a witty guy and he gets off some fairly good one liners. You won’t be falling over laughing but you might get a chuckle here and there.

Aside from this one factor how much you will enjoy “Destination Truth” depends on how much you are into the paranormal. If you are gung-ho then you will be gung-ho for this show.

“Destination Truth” premieres on Syfy, Wednesday, March 17 at 10PM. Gather up some of your leprechaun friends to watch with you and have a great time.
